Ronnie Fearn, former MP for Southport and more recently Lord Fearn of Southport, has died aged 90.

Ronnie became a Liberal councillor on Merseyside County Council in 1973 and then served his community on Sefton council from 1974 to 2016 - an astonishing run. He was elected MP for Southport twice: from 1987 (our only gain at that General Election) to 1992, and again from 1997 to 2001 before stepping down. Fellow Sefton Lib Dem councillor John Pugh succeeded him as MP.

Ronnie received the OBE in 1985, and his peerage in 2001 after stepping down from the House of Commons.

Regional President Jackie Pearcey said, "Ronnie was a much loved figure in the party both here in the North West and nationwide, known both for his incredible record locally and as a mainstay of the party's "Glee Club" evenings at our Spring and Autumn national conferences. He was a great Liberal who will be much missed through both the Liberal Democrats and in Southport."
