Rail fares up again?
Tom Brake MP has responded to the announcement today that train fares are to go up by another 3.6%.
The Lib Dem MP said, “This steep hike to rail fares will be a bitter blow for passengers struggling with overcrowded and unreliable trains.
“The fact that fare rises are soaring above wage increases is another sign that people are losing out from higher inflation since the referendum.
“Rail travel does not represent good enough value for money or provide reliability for customers.
“We need to see evidence that this money will be invested in improving infrastructure rather than just lining the pockets of train companies.”
Here in the North West unregulated (“off-peak”) fares in many areas have gone up ahead of the headline figures with publicised increases rounded-up and an additional 50p price hike across many services a year ago.
